Our vision for Taekwondo Wales is to build a community by helping people get in shape, be safe and at the same time instill the life skills and character of a true martial artist. Upholding important values like courtesy, patience, respect, self control and integrity.
 
We will also help you achieve self discipline, high self esteem, a positive out look, a spirit of constant improvement, and an attitude that refuses to give up. These values and life skills will lead to remarkable improvements in academics, careers, and relationships, literally making a better community one black belt at a time.  
 
 

WHAT IS TAEKWONDO?

 
Taekwondo
Taekwondo is a modern martial art, characterised by its fast, high and spinning kicks. There are multiple interpretations of the name Taekwondo. Taekwondo is often translated as 'the way of hand and foot.'

Tae = 'Foot' or 'to kick' or 'to jump'
K'won = 'Fist' or 'to strike or block with hand'
Do = 'The way of' or 'art'

Put this together and Taekwondo means: "The art of kicking and punching" or "The art of unarmed combat

Disciplines of Taekwondo:

Taekwondo has four disciplines:
  • Patterns
  • Sparring (Sports Taekwondo is available if the student wants it. It is not compulsory.) 
  • Self-defence
  • Break Test
It is the combination of these four disciplines that make the art of Taekwondo.

Objectives of Taekwondo:

  1. to develop an appreciation for Taekwondo as a sport and an art
  2. to achieve physical fitness through positive participation
  3. to improve mental discipline and emotional equanimity
  4. to learn self-defense skills
  5. to develop a sense of responsibility for one self and others
Taekwondo is primarily a kicking art, often with a greater emphasis on the sport aspect of the art. Taekwondo stylists tend to fight at an extended range, and keep opponents away with their feet. It is a hard/soft, external, fairly linear style and is known for being very powerful. There is a lot of competition work in many dojongs. Training tends to emphasize sparring, but has forms, and the basics are important as well.

Most any exercise gets some results when done, most any self defence is better than none. The problem is that most fitness programmes fail to offer the excitement and interest to keep the participant consistent in their training, therefore setting them up for failure in their results.

The success in the results of Phoenix Black Belts physical programme is supported by personal development. The student learns concepts and receives coaching that keeps them on track like focus, goal setting, self discipline, and confidence, which are inherited in our martial arts training. It is like having your own personal trainer and success coach all in one. The best thing of all is you will receive incredible physical benefits and personal development traits, while receiving the empowerment that comes through the self defence training.

No matter if you are five or sixty five, Strength, Conditioning, and Flexibility are all benefits that a student can expect to receive. Every muscle group is strengthened and defined with the exercises, movements, techniques, and training drills that are incorporated into our curriculum. Your endurance and stamina will peak as we increase your cardiovascular conditioning. All these physical benefits on your body will be felt in your daily life and activities, increasing your energy and confidence.
